Your First Surf Lesson
A lot of times people do not know
what to expect out of their first surf lesson. Endless
Summer's online surf school is here to make sure you are
prepared when
learning how to surf.
We will answer some frequently asked questions about
surf lessons, and tell you what to look for when
choosing a surf school.
Come learn to Surf with
Endless Summer !!!
Basics:
What do I need to bring to my Surf
Lesson?
All we ask is that you show up with a swimsuit, some
sunscreen, & water. Endless Summer will take care of the
rest. Your lesson will include a wetsuit and surfboard
to use during the lesson, as well as a free rental after
you are done to practice.
How long is a lesson & how much
time is spent in the water?
All of our surf lessons are 1.5 hours long and they
start of on the beach where you will learn all the
basics of surfing. The on land portion will last between
10-20 min depending on your particular lesson, and the
rest will be spent surfing. All lessons also include one
hour of free surf or practice after the instruction is
over.
Where do we meet the instructor?
Our lessons all start out at Endless Summer Surf n
Skate, located at 2888 Mission Blvd, in South Mission
Beach. You will meet with your instructor at the
shop before the lesson to get fitted for a wetsuit and
surfboard. The instructor will then lead you to the
beach where your lesson will begin !!
How early should I arrive at the
shop for my lesson or camp?
We ask that you arrive no earlier or later than 15
minutes prior to your lesson time. It only takes a
couple of minutes for us to get each student set up with
equipment, their instructor and out to the beach.
Where do I park at the beach?
Mission Beach can be a hard place to find parking in the
summer and on the weekends. However, Endless Summer does
have two 15 minute parking spots right in front of the
shop. This is a perfect spot to pull up, check in for
your lesson, and unload. Before your lesson starts
you will need to find parking along Mission Blvd or in
one of the Free Beach Parking Lots at Belmont Park or
the South Mission Beach Jetty. Please allow 30 minutes
to find parking in the summer, especially on weekends.
Choosing a Surf School:
Do your research !!! Make sure that the
school you choose is a reputable school and has good
references. A million people offer surf lessons
and it can be confusing to decipher the good ones from
the bad ones. The main point is to make sure
the school you choose to learn with is a licensed surf
school. In San Diego, there is a strict licensing
process that governs and regulates all surf lessons that
are done on city beaches. If the school is
licensed by the city, you can be positive your surf
instructors are all properly certified and insured. Not
every city or beach has a licensing process, but it is
very common in places like Hawaii, San Diego, Los
Angeles, & Santa Barbara. The city of San Diego
stands behind Endless Summer as an officially licensed
surf school for the past 3 years.
