Basics:

Is learning how to surf easy or hard? This is the most common question that we get asked when people are interested in learning how to surf or taking a surf lesson. A lot of people think that surfing looks easy and that it is a sport that can be learned very quickly. To the contrary a lot of  people also like to think that learning to surf is too hard and that it takes too long to learn.  The real answer to this question is that learning to surf is not that hard & most people can do it, BUT  it does require time and patience.

How good of a swimmer do I have to be? Since you are in the ocean when you are surfing it is very important to know how to swim, however you do NOT need to be an Olympic swimmer.  When learning how to surf or taking a surf lesson you are usually surfing small waves at good spots for learning that do not have strong currents.  If you know the basics  and swim comfortably then you will have no problem with surfing. Actually, paddling your surfboard will help build strength and learning how to surf will make you a better swimmer in the long run !!!!

How long until I stand up? Surfing takes patience and a lot of practice, but we do get most people to stand up during their first surf lesson.  If you do not stand up right away, don't worry because learning how to surf does take time !!! Taking a surf lesson will help you stand up quickly because an instructor can give you tips that will make learning how to pop up easier.

How much do I need to practice? It is very important to try and surf as much as possible.  The more time you spend in the water, the quicker you will learn and improve your surfing skills. We do recommend to try and surf once a week if possible...If not, try and go surf at least once every other week.

What do I get out of a surf lesson? Taking a lesson is going to be the best way to learn since someone can teach you the basics of the sport in an hour.  A good lesson should include a demonstration on land, as well as in water instruction.
